Certainly, some people are born with talents, and some people are born with the potential for talent.
I think that genetics (the DNA you get from your mum and dad) hold many talents, that with the right environment (training, education) can be amazing talents. Good examples of this might be athletic talent, where children come from an athletic family, so maybe running or jumping comes easier to them because of eir genetics, but that real training makes them a great athlete.
There are some talents that we still don’t understand, like child prodigy musicians of people with incredible memories, that appear to require no training. We really don’t understand anything about how is happens.
I think genetics sure does play a role, in talent, but that hard work and perseverance are just as important. 🙂

I agree with Hannah, we are born with genes that predispose us to be good at certain things over others. But we can’t ignore the effect our environment has too. Having support to peruse your talent is critical, and also being exposed to a number of things in the first place to work out what areas your talents lie in.
There are some people who are exceptional at one thing. There is a man who can fly over London and then afterwards draw a ‘to scale’ picture of the city, with small intricate details, like windows and street lamps. His brain has been wired for this ability, but he also has a disorder called Autism, where he has great difficultly interacting with people and understanding emotions and even tying up his shoe.
They say that if you invest 10,000 hrs in one thing you will become a genius at it. That’s a lot of time and would take a lot of will power. Perhaps those people who are naturally inclined to work obsessively at something could develop a special talent in what ever they choose?
