Question: What is the most rewarding thing about being a scientist

Keywords:

  1. Great question!

For me, its the chance to make a difference.
I’m very lucky that the worki do helps couples to have babies, and that’s very rewarding.
I also get to work with all kinda of people including being involved in these kinds of events, and National Science Week. Talking to kids like you guys and helping to inspire the next generation of scientists is also very rewarding!

It’s a great job! I wouldn’t change it for anything!

  2. Actually, working with the Scientists in Schools program is the most rewarding thing that I do! I love going into primary schools to help out with cool science. The kids are energetic, excited and curious…the exact opposite of most of the scientists that I work with! I also love showing the teachers how they can supplement their fantastic teaching with cool demonstrations and experiments. I took a year four class ice skating last year to investigate friction! We also built mini catapults and took aim at their teacher (with marshmallows) to look at angle and force. Definitely rewarding. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I am lucky to be able to peruse my passion. I’m excited by almost everything I do each day. Its also very important for me to dedicate lots of my time to making a difference to people’s lives and health. It’s great I can do this through my work.

  4. To be honest it’s usually the little things.
Being involved in events such as this, spreading the word about how cool the eye is, being able to teach students (i do uni teaching), whilst still being able to do scientific research and finding out new things are what it’s all about.
In science you get a chance to meet A LOT of different people as you are almost forced to collaborate with others! The reason is that you cannot do many techniques or experiments as an individual or a part of a small research group, and you need to work with other people who have the necessary expertise. So there’s always someone you can collaborate with, new scientists that can help (or you can help), interesting places to go and see etc.
I’d love to be able to go to an international conference overseas to speak to the greats in my field…

    Hope that makes sense ๐Ÿ˜€
