Question: Could theoretically do what they did in Jurassic Park (eg: clone dinosaurs using blood collected from mosquitoes), if you had the neccesary tecnology?

  1. Whilst the idea was a good one, it’s not as simple as they made it out to be.
Oh, and the thing about using other DNA to fill out the gaps, yeah, that’s not really possible!

    Great movies though 😀

  2. I don’t know, Yashar. I think it’s probably possible!
It’s certainly not as simple as they made it out to be, but I think we even have the technology!
The bit that would be near on impossible would be finding the mosquito with some intact Dino DNA, but if you could do that, it might be possible…. You would have to find a big reptile to grow the Dino baby I too… I guess it would be hard, but possible…

  3. If you could find an animal that the dinos were highly related to (cassowaries???), so that you only had to fill in a very few blocks of DNA…..maybe. You’d just have to hope that the fragments of DNA that you had(it breaks up into little pieces very quickly) were the important dino bits.

We’re pretty close to being able to bring back animals that are extinct…but only ones that we have good DNA for. And you have to think about the wisdom of bringing back an animal that no longer has a habitat. And the fact that you need at least 500 to have a decent breeding population. One Tassie tiger isn’t much good!
