Question: where do you think organ science will go in 10 years

Keywords: , , ,

  1. Hopefully by that time technological advances, as well as advances in our knowledge of the body, will be at a level where we can start thinking about designing/ growing organs for those who need one.
This is pretty optimistic! What’s more likely is that we’ll still be trying to figure out how the human body works 10 years from now (it’s too darn complicated!)

    But fingers crossed!

  2. Hey Jonny. Great question.

I’m going to tell you about the science of my organ, the ovary.

I would like the next big breakthrough to be in the area of ovarian cancer, which is another thing I work on! It would be amazing if we could learn a bit more about ovarian cancer, and in particular, finding a marker for early detection. Ovarian cancer is very hard to detect, because you can’t just see it, and it often gets really bad before you even know you have it. It would be wonderful for someone to find a marker for early detection, so we can save more women with varian cancer!! I’m not sure I will make the breakthrough, but I hope someone can! This could definitely happen in the next 10 years!

  3. The brain is my favourite organ. In 10 years time I predict we will be able to map the connections in the brain. There are trillions and trillions so this will be difficult but when it’s completed, we will know so much more about how our brain works and what happens when things go wrong.

  4. In ten years? I don’t think a huge amount will change. In 100, things should be drastically different. I would imagine that we’ll be able to grow new organs, or engineer babies so that they don’t have any problems at all. Also, we’ll have flying cars.
