Where i work, the common safety gear is gloves, a lab coat and safety glasses.
We also have to wear shoes that completely cover our feet and we wear our hair tied back if it’s long.
We do all these things so that we don’t damage ourselves.

That depends on what you’re doing. When I worked with infectious fluids, I wore double gloves, lab coat, glasses, and face shield. When I worked with radiation, I wore all of that AND stood behind a plastic shield! Sometimes chemists have to wear suits made of special fabric that aren’t affected by the nasty things that they’re using. And a friend of mine that studies volcanoes has a cool silver space suit that she has to wear to get close to lava!

Gloves, closed shoes and a lab coat are a must.
If handling acids or corrosive substances, you need to have glasses to protect your eyes.
Depending on the chemical, a fume hood might also be required.
At the end of the day, I don’t want to damage any part of me…

When I work with mice I wear protective clothing to protect them! My mice are very healthy, and haven’t been exposed to any viruses and bacteria. I wear a lab coat, green croc shoes, a hair net, a mask and disinfect my hands before putting on gloves to make sure that I keep all the nasties away from my mice. Its a lot of stuff to put on, but its worth it!
