Question: what is a cause of brain damage?

  1. There’s lots of causes of brain damage, but the most common causes are trauma (like an accident) and when there is no blood to the brain (like a stroke).

Most often, brain damage happens when some of the cells in the brain (which we call neurons) get damaged, or die.

  2. As Hannah said…there are lots of causes. A really common one is caused by pressure on the brain from an infection (meningitis), or from trauma (getting tackled in footy).

  3. Trauma/damage is the big one, as it’s the most “noticeable”!
There are other things. Just take care of yourself, and don’t go head first into things (whether they be a tackle in sports, diving into water or a wall that you decided to run into)…

  4. Hitting your head, being in a car accident, having a stroke or being born with your umbilical cord around your neck are all things that can cause brain damage. What causes your brain cells or neurons to die? If its a trauma accident then the impact can cause the cells to break open & die. Not having access to oxygen also kills neurons.
