Question: What do you think the definition of science is and why?

Keywords:

  1. The word science comes from the Latin word, “scientia”, meaning “knowledge” and that really is what science means to me.

Its the way we get knowledge, by looking, and testing and experimenting and understanding.

  2. I think I’ll go with the Science Council’s definition:
Science is the pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence.

I like this one because of the addition of “systematic methodology based on evidence”. There are a lot of things out there that would like to be thought of as science, but they don’t involve evidence or a methodology. They are pseudosciences….and people should be very careful that they know which one they’re dealing with! An opinion does not make a truth.

  3. The discovery of “how and why” is what science is all about. It’s the pursuit of knowledge…

  4. Science is about looking at evidence and deciding what it tells us about the world.
