I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Organs Zone. It has scientists studying health and disease in various parts of our bodies. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
Your eyes are held in and controlled by muscles (4 major ones i think).
If these muscles are damages or ripped, your eye might be able to fall out (this is different to some people that can extend/bulge their eyes out – they have “loose” muscles). This can happen if there is a serious bump to the skull! In that scenario, it all depends if the optic nerve is still attacked (meaning your eye is still attached via the optic nerve!). This is getting to the icky part but stay with me. The optic nerve attaches and send signals from the back of your eye (the retina) to the brain. If this is severed, then you will absolutely lose eye-sight.
If on the odd chance that such a huge impact to the skull that rips the eye muscles does not rip the optic nerve connection, then yes, you can place it back in (surgery!!!) and it may function (although i somehow doubt it’d be as good as before the accident!)
Hope that makes sense! And why the question?! Know of anyone that has had this happen? Seen it in a movie?!
