Question: can you stitch someones brain up without them havving head pains?

  1. Hi Luke!

Well, i’m not sure! Do you mean stick up their brain, or stitch up the skin on the outside?

We have anaesthetic which stops us from feeling pain (by blocking the nerves that transmit pain sensations), so if you needed something stitched you could get an anaesthetic and it would stop you from feeling pain.

I think if you needed your actual brain stitched up, that would be far more serious, although, i don’t think that you can actually feel it if someone touched your brain. But they would have to go in through your skull, which would definitely hurt.

So it’s a tough question… did I answer it for you?

  3. As Yashar said…brain surgery is often done without a general anaesthetic. They do give you a local though, so that you don’t feel them cutting your head open.

  4. There are no pain receptors in the brain. That’s why surgeons can perform brain surgery on a patient why they are still awake. This helps them ensure that the delicate procedure doesn’t effect any critical brain area like vision or motor control functions. They talk to their patients while their brains are wide open. Local anathestic is given to stop pain from the skin & muscles that were cut open to get to the brain.
