Question: Is it possible to freeze some one in carbonite, just like in Star Wars? And will they survive it?

  1. Well…there’s no such thing as carbonite. So no, not just like in Star Wars. Cryogenics is a possibility (freezing someone and then bringing them back), but so far we’ve only been able to make that work in small mammals. Not in humans, or in anything big. Although we do chill people down for open heart surgery…but that’s not really freezing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Love Star Wars!
The idea is sound, meaning it could work (although Carina is right with no such element existing).
Cryogenics is pretty much exactly the same thing. We can freeze cells (like female eggs or sperm), just not humans at this time.

I’m know there are people working on it. So watch this space!

  3. And we can freeze a human embryo… and bring it back to live for people undergoing IVF.
Its easy to freeze it – it’s very hard to thaw it without damaging it though.
It’s not as simple as just putting it in the freezer and taking it out again!

  4. There is carbon and though there is no kryptonite, there is krypton!

As the others have said, cryogenics is the field of science which enables freezing of small biological material such as sperm and ova or other cells.

@Yashar- star wars is awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚
