Question: Has technology had a negative affect on childrens health

Keywords: ,

  1. I’m guessing that you mean TV and computers? Yes, in that kids do more playing indoors than outdoors now. That means less moving their bodies and less vitamin D from the sun. There is also research to show that time in nature (outside) is good for ADHD and other mental health problems, as well as making bodies strong and capable.

On the other hand….technology has also saved children’s lives (not the TV sort) through medical research and all sorts of life saving devices. The modern world isn’t all bad.

Now get off the computer and go outside!

  2. As we learn more about technology, and some possible adverse effects it may have on us, we are building better and safer tech. In society today, we are however sitting and watching too much TV, or in front of a computer (i’m guitly of both!). This is undoubtedly having an affect on our health, with a sharp increase in type II diabetes and obesity seen the last couple of decades.
As Carina said, with advances in technology, we are now able to diagnose and operate certain diseases that we weren’t able to 10 years ago.
So I’m all for technology, but in moderation!

  3. Yeah, i’m with Carina on this one.

I think it’s had both negative and positive impacts on health.
Certainly, being inside more and moving around less is not good, and we all know that obesity is increasing, but medical technology has really improved the lives of Australian children also.

    It’s a tough one!
