Question: do u have a phd, if so what did u have too do to get it?

Keywords: , , ,

  1. Yep, i have a PhD.

To get my PhD, firstly i have to go to university to get an undergraduate degree (which is for 4 years). Here i learned about lots of different areas of science and i got an opportunity to try lots of things before i decided which area i’d like to work in.

Then I could enrol in my PhD. It took me three more years at university to get my PhD. To get it, i had to do a research project, where i designed my own experiments and tested them in the lab every day, and then i had to write a book, called a thesis, to tell people about the experiments i had done. It was actually just like going to work and being a scientist every day. I had to take a few classes, but mostly i did pracs in the lab. At the very end, i had to give a presentation about the experiments i did.

It was a really great time in my life! I loved my PhD, and its actually not too different from what i do every day now. I still do experiments every day, and i write about them and talk about them, but now i am the boss! ๐Ÿ™‚

In my 3rd year. It’s taking ages and it’s hard!

  3. Yes, I have mine. The research was fun, and to be honest, it was probably the easiest job that I’ve ever had!

  4. Hi coolbro,

I don’t have a PhD. Most of my friends who studied science however do have PhDs. I decided I didn’t want to do it – but that doesn’t mean I haven’t ruled it out for the future- I’m waiting for the right project!

I finished my honours year and actually studied something else before coming back to work as a researcher.

There are actually other avenues for you to pursue if you want to do research (research assistant, laboratory manager, laboratory technician) but a PhD definitely helps you to understand a specific area of research in great detail and let’s you progress much further with research if you want to work towards running your own lab some day! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Yep I have a PhD. I spent a lot of time at uni, a lot of time thinking and doing experiments again and again. It was really tough at times but I also got to decide what I was doing, and when I was doing it. That sort of flexibility regarding time and intellect doesn’t exist in any other job.

At the end of it I got to hold a book that I wrote and wear a silly floppy hat that made me so proud I swelled inside. I don’t think I’ve ever been that proud of anything else I’ve done. ๐Ÿ™‚
