Question: What type of things are different in the brain of a child with autism and a child who doesnt have autism?

Keywords: ,

  1. Some scientists have found that children with autism have different brain activity in the amygdala, the brain area that co-ordinates emotional responses.

Using brain imaging, the scientists looked at how kids with autism could judge from the expressions of another person’s eyes what that other person might be thinking or feeling. In this study, kids with autism did not use their amygdala when guessing what the person was thinking by looking at their eyes. Kids without autism did show amygdala activity.

Other scientists think that whole brain differences are more likely, in particular in the connections between neurons.
