Question: Do cases of schizophrenia get worse as life goes on for people living with it?

    Many people with schizophrenia get better with treatment. However, some cases are more difficult to treat and sadly sometimes these people have symptoms that get progressively worse. There are many new drugs being developed right now and we are hoping that they work better than the drugs currently available.

    I am not a psychiatrist so I can’t give you an exact answer but your the answer to your question depends on what kind of schizophrenia the person has. The diagnosis of schizophrenia is very complicated and it can look different from person to person. Some people can experience an episode of psychosis, a period of hallucinations and delusional thoughts but never go on to develop any of the other more long-term symptoms of schizophrenia like problems with memory, attention, and motivation.
