I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Organs Zone. It has scientists studying health and disease in various parts  of our bodies. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
Hi emmalina,
Great question. Yes, in fact scientists can “grow” cells that are exact replicas of one another. It involves using stem cells, or making a stem cell.
But it gets complex when you consider that single point mutations, and cross overs can (and in fact do!) occur when cells divide. So if you start with 2 identical cells and allow them to “grow” by dividing, the longer you leave them and the more cells that divide the greater the chance that cells will start becoming different from one another.
Hope that makes sense 😀
