I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Organs Zone. It has scientists studying health and disease in various parts  of our bodies. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
The blinking reflex is in place so that your eyes remain “clean” and “wet”. There’s a lot of complexity to it (what nerves are responsible etc), but ultimately tears contain a lot of enzymes and anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agents to make sure your eye remains nice and clean. You blink to remove any small bits of dirt that can get onto your eye, and to keep the top surface of the eye wet with tears so that the cornea, front of the eye, works correctly and isn’t damaged.
The reason why you don’t realise how many times you blink is just like how you don’t notice when you have to breathe or for your heart to beat! You have nerves that take care of all these so you can focus on other (more important) things… LOL
Hope that helps 😀
