Question: What is the most interesting thing you found about white blood cells in your eye work in protecting against inflammmation and infections from nastybugs

  1. Hi toffee. Good question.
Up until recently, people thought they’d seen it all when it comes to white blood cells. I mean they’re just cells, and we know how they function! But recently, we found that these cells can link up and communicate and exchange things between them. No one had ever even thought this possible. It’s so strange that we use the ability to link and talk between cells as a feature to be able to distinguish (tell apart) the human and plant cells (plasmodesmata). Well I’ve shown that these connections, termed membrane nanotubes (as the cell membrane extends and contacts another cell), exist in vertebrate in a couple of organs.
Have a look at my profile for a picture 😀
