I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Organs Zone. It has scientists studying health and disease in various parts  of our bodies. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
Hi toffee. Good question.
Up until recently, people thought they’d seen it all when it comes to white blood cells. I mean they’re just cells, and we know how they function! But recently, we found that these cells can link up and communicate and exchange things between them. No one had ever even thought this possible. It’s so strange that we use the ability to link and talk between cells as a feature to be able to distinguish (tell apart) the human and plant cells (plasmodesmata). Well I’ve shown that these connections, termed membrane nanotubes (as the cell membrane extends and contacts another cell), exist in vertebrate in a couple of organs.
