Question: How do you take video recordings of wriggling guts?

  1. Hi jboeg,

If you read my description of my work it explains how we make recordings.

Basically we take a segment of intestine out of an experimental animal and place it in a bath filled with a solution that helps keep it alive. We also keep it at the right temperature and keep it bubbled with oxygen to stay alive. The tissue is normally very happy like this and can wriggle or contract for several hours in this state.

We place a video camera over the bath and make recordings of the intestine moving and then use special software that changes the video into a map that represents these movements/contractions.
