I’ve only looked at animal eyes so far, but can and most likely should look at human eyes to see if what i find is conserved between species. Animal models are in place so that we are able to determine how certain things work. When we have a good idea of how things work in an animal model, say a mouse, then we can test to see whether the same things is conserved between species, by looking at primate or human samples.
There are other projects that look specifically at human sample, like cancer biopsies.
