I love working with mice. Throughout primary school and high school I kept mice and rats as pets. I had 18 in total over the years. They are very smart and after I have been working with them for a while they recognise me and happily sit on my lab coat. A few years ago I accidentally lost one when I was changing his box. He was a mouse that I had been raising in a stimulating environment with toys, ladders and running wheels to boost his memory and mood. He spend a day and a night running around our mouse housing room until I found him sleeping in one of our toy boxes. He must have been tired! While mice occasionally get out of their cages we have special barricades on the doors to stop mice getting out of the room so they can’t get very far.

Yep, I definitely like working with mice. And they are really helpful to my research!
I actually had one escape this week, but like Emma said, they are in special rooms with barricades so they can’t get out! I work on some mice that are we nickname popcorn mice, because they can fly straight up and out of the cage. They are great jumpers. I had to catch it with a broom and a cardboard box.
