Question: why is cyanide dangrous

Keywords: ,

  1. Cyanide is a nasty (though natural) substance that keeps the ATP reaction in cells from working (ATP generates energy for your body…without it your body can’t do anything at all!). It’s most dangerous when it’s a gas, because then you can breathe it in and get it all through your cells. Your cells can no longer make energy, and your body shuts down. The most common source of cyanide exposure (outside of mining and industrial processes) is cigarette smoking!!! What I always found really interesting is that cyanide smells like burnt almonds…but not everyone can smell it. I can!
