Question: What is the most interesting part of your day

Keywords: , ,

  1. That depends on the day. I like having meetings with my group and with other scientists. Talking about problems that I’m having, and about what they’re doing, helps me to come up with new ideas and to make my hypotheses better. But the days when I have a good idea that actually works are pretty fabulous. My most favourite thing though is taking science to the primary schools that I volunteer with. The other day I dissected lamb’s brains with a bunch of year threes, and it was great fun! Their curiousity and energy makes me remember why science is fun!

  2. This week, the most interesting part of my day is I’m A Scientist!

Normally, though, the most interesting part of my day is when i get to do experiments in the lab! I love that i get to find out the answers to things i didn’t know before, and that i get to see things that’s no one has ever seen before! And i love looking down the microscope at things that i can’t see with just my eyes alone!

  3. Started the week off with the “I’m a scientist” chat this morning. So far the most interesting by far.
On “normal” days, it’s the search for the unknown.
When your next in your class learning about how things work, whether it be science, maths or anything for that matter, have a think about how this was first discovered. Who was the first person to figure this out? How did they come to understand it?
As a researcher/ scientist, you are at the front line of knowledge where everything you find is expanding our understanding. That’s pretty cool in my books

  4. Every day has a new interesting part. Today I am programming a new memory test. It’s a little like an ipad for mice. I am writing a computer program so that symbols will appear on the touch sensitive computer screen. When the correct symbol is touched a squirt of strawberry milkshake will come out of a tube. Soon I will test it out with mice. I wonder if my mice will be able to remember which symbol to touch so they get a strawberry milkshake reward?

  5. Every day there are different things that turn out to be interesting in my work.

I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful students and scientists who have a great sense of humor and are really interested in science. It really helps having a good work environment as it encourages you to explore your full potential and ask questions that create new ideas!

    • Awesome! Make sure you find the arbor vitae. It’s my favourite structure in the brain!
