Question: In winter where does all the white and water go when it melts? Plz answer Renae :)

  1. Hi Renae! The simple answer is that all water ends up in the oceans eventually. It runs down from the mountain tops, into the streams, into the rivers, and then into the oceans. Then the sun heats up the top layer of the oceans, and the water evaporates into the atmosphere and becomes clouds. Then the clouds cool down and it falls again as rain or snow…and it starts all over!!!

  2. Yep, the water is always somewhere. It’s either in the rivers or ocean as water, in the sky (as clouds) waiting to be rain, hail or snow, or on the ground as snow (if it’s really cold).

  3. Into the ground. There are underground rivers that direct the water to the seas/ oceans.
As Carina said, water from ocean evaporates, making clouds. Rain either falls straight onto the ground or if the cloud is high enough, and the air cold enough it can come down as hail or snow…

  4. Hi renae,

Everyone else has done a great job of explaining where snow ends up when it melts.

The water cycle is responsible for changing ice into water by melting. water collects into common drains such as river ways and oceans and evaporates into water vapor as clouds. When the conditions are right this water vapor (water as gas) condenses or precipitates into rain, or hail or snow.

Did you know we also contribute to the water cycle through respiration? As we breathe we release carbon dioxide and water. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and water through photosynthesis. This chemical reaction produces glucose (sugar molecule as food) and oxygen which is released into the atmosphere for us to use.

  5. So water is everywhere! Our brains are 75% water! Perhaps there’s some melted snow water in there somewhere 😉
