Question: If a pregnant mother has cancer can that be spread to the baby

Keywords: , , ,

  1. Hey there.
I think the answer is no, it can’t, but the placenta, which is the organ which attaches the baby to the uterus can get cancer.

When women are pregnant, the most common cancer is breast cancer, because the special hormones that support the baby can also stimulate breast cancer. But it’s very rare. If I woman gets cancer during pregnancy, often it is possible to deliver the baby early, or even to treat the woman with chemotherapy, many of them are now safe for the baby. Most often though, they will deliver the baby if it is developed enough.

Only about 1/1000 pregnant women get cancer, which is quite rare!
