Ha! I bet your mother told you that it stayed inside for seven years….mine did. Or I once had someone tell me that it would get stuck in my appendix, causing appendicitis.
Neither one is true….gum goes through you and ends up in the same place as all the bits of your food that your body can’t use. In the toilet.

Yep. Carina is right! It just stays in there as long as the rest of your food. And then you poop it out ๐

Chewing gum is not absorbed by your stomach or intestines, but that doesn’t mean it stays there. As Carina and Hannah have mentioned anything that isn’t absorbed comes out the other end.
As an aside, if you ever chew gum for too long, it can actually disintegrate/break down in your mouth by digestive enzymes, so that’s why certain brands of gum suggest you chew for 20 min after a meal and not for hours.

The don’t chew gum because it’ll stay in your stomach “myth” was probably said for your own good.
You get no nutritious value from swallowing gum, and worst case scenario you might actually chock on it as it can get lodged in your lungs…
Enjoy it while it’s nice, then spit it out ๐
Oh, and it’s 30-40 minutes i think. Hour max! And then it’s up to you when to, ahem, release it
