I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Organs Zone. It has scientists studying health and disease in various parts of our bodies. Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
The study that I’m working on have followed 2000 kids from birth (and they’re now 21 years old!). They and their parents came in periodically to have blood taken, answer questions, be weighed and measured, and have lots of data recorded about them. It was a huge effort for everyone!!! What I’m looking at right now is their vitamin D levels and how they change over their childhood, and how that might relate to other things, like their heart health and future risk for obesity and heart disease. What I’m finding is what people have been saying for years: vitamin D is important for lots of things that go on in your body. And the best place to get vitamin D is from the sun. So go outside!!!
